Updates on the BENEFIT-Med orphan legumes … how do they manage drought stress?

The work performed by the BENEFIT-Med Teams aimed at the characterization of the drought-resilience profiles of the six target accessions is closed. For each accession, different drought stress intensities were applied, according to the system developed by Conrado Jr. Duenas at UNIPV (https://doitorg/10.3389/fpls.2024.1344383). The most appropriate drought stress intensity was then used to check the ability of the seed priming protocols to mitigate the drought-induced damage. The response observed for each accession of the three species (grass pea, forage pea, fenugreek) is genotype- and treatment-dependent. The promising data so far collected support the potential of the BENEFIT-Med priming protocols to alleviate the impact of drought stress. The UNIPV, US, BPI and AUA Teams are drafting the manuscript … let’s keep fingers crossed … we are looking forward to share the results of our collaborative work with the scientific community!!!
